Since 1973 Arabica coffee
has been planted on high
mountains in Northern
Thailand.

The coffee was introduced
to the hill tribes to replace the
opium crops which they grew
for income

The UN. together with The
King's Royal Project
facilitated the change.

At present Arabica coffee,
flowers and vegetables have
totally eliminated opium
production in Thailand

.

Even though, only 300-500
tons of Arabica coffee are
produced in Thailand
each year,

the annual crops are eagerly
sought after by famous coffee
companies.

The quality of the Thai coffee
beans is recognized as among
the best in the world.
